Is Your Drone Ready for Fishing? Here’s How to Make Sure

This blog is not biased. We play with all fishing tech that's out there and then recommend what we think is the absolute best. So before you head out for a day of drone fishing, ask yourself—is your drone actually ready? Fishing drones take a beating, from saltwater exposure to rough landings, and if you don’t take care of them, they won’t last long. Here’s how to make sure your drone is ready for fishing so you’re not stranded on the shore with a dead drone. Hint, Xpece drones don't have to deal with any of these issues, but if you don't have an Xpece, these are the issues that you're going to have to deal with.

  1. Check the Propellers Your drone’s propellers are its lifeline. Before you fly, inspect them for any cracks or damage. Even a small crack can lead to a disaster mid-flight, so make sure they’re in perfect condition.
  2. Battery Life There’s nothing worse than having your drone die in the middle of a flight. Fully charge your battery and bring spares. Fishing drones require more power than typical drones, especially when carrying heavy bait.
  3. Bait Release System Your drone’s bait release mechanism is what makes drone fishing possible. Test it before every trip. The last thing you want is for your bait to get stuck, or worse, drop in the wrong spot.
  4. Weather Readiness Is it windy? Rainy? If so, think twice before flying. Even waterproof drones like the SwellPro FD1+ struggle in extreme conditions, there's not a lack of people complaining about the Swellpro brand because of how bad they are and how their warranty...well, it's not a warranty really, it's a joke. That's why I recommend Xpece over any waterproof drone.
  5. Preparing your drone for fishing isn’t just about charging the battery. It’s about making sure everything is in perfect working order so you can fly with confidence. Want to make sure you’ve got the right gear? Check out UrbanDrones.com for fishing drones that are built for the job.
